Who are we?

polyXengineering, Inc. is an engineering consulting firm on the Central Coast of California. It was founded in 2016 by two Cal Poly professors, Dr. Patrick Lemieux and Dr. Frank Owen.

Our focus is the engineering analysis of systems, processes and products, as well as the design and fabrication of mechanisms and machines along the strictest engineering guidelines. Our specialties include but are not limited to:

David Houghton, P.E., Principal
Mr. Houghton is Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Cal Poly. He brings in more than 25 years of consulting experience in the field of HVAC and high-efficiency building systems. A registered Professional Mechanical and Civil Engineer in California, Dave is an avid aviation specialist with over 1400 hours of pilot-in-command experience.

Internal Combustion Engines in Space
The short answer is that it is possible to run an ICE in space despite the cold and vacuum of the environment. When it comes to how combustion works, everything is the same for gasoline and liquid rockets, it's just the amount of each liquid you need to achieve that combustion along with an oxidizer and the ignition event to get everything started.
